Field(s) of activity/research for the traineeship
European cooperation in space has a dynamic history dating back to the 1950s. Just as space technology rapidly advanced over the last 70 years, so has audio-visual technology. Without migrating information to new formats, data can easily be lost and forgotten. To promote the importance of continuity in space activities by linking past to present, ESA is recruiting an EGT to keep the legacy of European cooperation in space alive.
Working within the Digital & Print Products and Channels Office, you will develop a project to digitise and archive audio-visual material.
As an EGT, some of your activities may include:
- Surveying and creating an inventory of ESA’s archived, non-digital audio-visual material
- Researching and selecting a suitable company to carry out digitisation project
- Planning and overseeing a digitisation project
- Familiarising yourself with ESA’s past and present missions and activities
- Assessing digitised assets
- Inserting assets into a digital asset management system, using relevant metadata
- Liaising regularly with the Digital Media Production Office, to providing newly-digitised content to current projects
- Liaising with the News and Content Office, ensuring correct information and metadata are associated with each asset
- Liaising with the Records and Information Officer for cross-coordination with ESA Archives
- Proposing new projects to exploit the newly-digitised content
Throughout your traineeship, some key learning objectives are:
- To advance knowledge of audio and video digitisation methods
- To hone skills in digital asset archiving
- To develop project management experience and skills
- To Increase understanding of European space activities
