Description

Internal Communication Officer within the Internal Communication Products and Channels Office, Products and Channels Division, Communication Department, Director General’s Services.

Under the supervision of the Head of Internal Communication Products and Channels, you, as Internal Communication Officer, will assist in managing internal communication within the European Space Agency. 

The objectives are to inform employees about the 2040 strategic objectives, unify ESA's workforce with a clear brand narrative, enhance engagement through a new communication platform, initiate cultural transformation, in particular through the One ESA intranet platform, inspire staff by emphasising the impact of their contributions, increase visibility of leadership communication, and improve internal corporate and institutional communication.

In close cooperation with the Directorate of Internal Services and in liaison with the Communication Department’s Corporate and Institutional Communication Office, the Internal Communication Officer develops the appropriate channels and products needed to support the Corporate Communication Strategy with respect to Human Resources, Estates and Facilities Management, Finance, Planning and Controlling, and Information Technology activities.

Duties

Your tasks and responsibilities will include the following:

  • Developing and implementing mainly internal and, to a lesser extent, external communication strategies, and facilitating effective communication channels and processes across various internal services to ensure smooth information flow and collaboration, in particular for the Directorate of Internal Services.
  • Collaborating with the Human Resources Teams to communicate policies, benefits and organisational changes to employees.
  • Working closely with the Estates and Facilities Management Teams to address and communicate facility-related updates, improvements and projects.
  • Partnering with Information Technology and AI teams to effectively communicate technology updates, digital transformation initiatives and AI-driven solutions to staff.
  • Creating, disseminating and moderating internal communities and internal communications to keep employees informed and engaged.
  • Implementing artificial intelligence tools in internal communication activities and acting as an AI ambassador for other team members.
  • Writing internal and external lines to take and key messages.
  • Organising and coordinating internal events, workshops and training sessions to foster a sense of community and continuous learning.
  • Gathering feedback from employees through surveys and forums to identify areas for improvement and address concerns.
  • Ensuring that all internal communications are aligned with the organisation's values, narrative, mission and goals.
  • Utilising data and analytics to measure the effectiveness of internal communication efforts and make data-driven improvements.

Education

A Master’s degree in communication or a related field, such as science communication, humanities, marketing, human resources, facility management, IT or international relations.

Additional requirements

Significant experience in internal communication in an international environment is required.
Knowledge of ESA as an organisation is necessary as well as proven experience in communication strategy and planning, as well as campaign management across all channels.
Knowledge of human resources management, facility and real estate management or IT would be an advantage.
The candidate should have a good understanding of KPI measurements and media analytics.
Knowledge of using AI in communication is required. Italian or Spanish would be an asset in addition to the official ESA languages English, French and German.

Important Information and Disclaimer
In principle, recruitment will be within the advertised grade band (A2-A4). However, if the selected candidate has less than four years of relevant professional experience following the completion of the master’s degree, the position may be filled at A1 level.

 

During the recruitment process, the Agency may request applicants to undergo selection tests. Additionally, successful candidates will need to undergo basic screening before appointment, which will be conducted by an external background screening service, in compliance with the European Space Agency's security procedures.

Note that ESA is in the process of transitioning to a Matrix setup, which could lead to organisational changes affecting this position.
